USS OKLAHOMA SSN 802 Commissioning Committee Announces Submarine Challenge Coin Design Competition
The state-of-the-art fast attack submarine, USS OKLAHOMA SSN 802, will join the
United States Navy’s fleet in 2027.
The USS OKLAHOMA SSN 802 Commissioning Committee is excited to announce the launch of the USS OKLAHOMA SSN 802 Challenge Coin Design Competition, inviting students, artists, designers, and submarine enthusiasts from across Oklahoma to submit their original designs for a chance to create the official challenge coin commemorating the commissioning of the USS OKLAHOMA SSN 802 submarine.
About the Competition:
Challenge coins have long been a symbol of honor, camaraderie, and service, particularly within military circles. This competition seeks designs that will capture the spirit of the newest submarine’s namesake - OKLAHOMA, its history, and rich heritage, while honoring submariners and their contributions to national security and global peace. Who better to have a hand in the design than Oklahoma’s own citizens, students and artists.
Key Details:
• Who Can Participate: The competition is open to the public and Oklahomans of high
school age and older, regardless of artistic background.
• Design Guidelines: Submissions should be original designs. The design will be used to
produce a coin approximately 1.5” minimum and up to 3” maximum in diameter which
may be round or another shape. The design must be two-sided, with a unique design on
each side.
• Submission Deadline: entries must be submitted by July 4, 2025.
• Selected Design: The selected design will be produced and distributed to sponsors, Plank Owners and Navy and Oklahoma delegates as the official submarine challenge coin for the commissioning events of the USS OKLAHOMA SSN 802.
• Judging Panel: The panel will consist of representatives from the USS OKLAHOMA
SSN 802 Commissioning Committee, and crew members of the USS OKLAHOMA SSN
802.
How to Submit:
Participants can submit their designs via email to ussok802.coin@gmail.com. Full submission guidelines, including technical specifications and rules, can be found at official entry form.
Design submissions must include a signed artist release agreement which is included within the entry form. The selected design will be announced on the website www.ussoklahoma-ssn802.us.
