The United States Navy's fleet is gaining a new, state-of-the-art submarine in 2027. She will be called the USS OKLAHOMA SSN 802! Challenge coins have long been a symbol of honor, camaraderie, and service, particularly within military circles. This competition seeks designs that will capture the spirit of the newest submarine's namesake - OKLAHOMA, its history, and rich heritage while honoring submariners and their contributions to national security and global peace. Who better to have a hand in the design than Oklahoma's own citizens, students, and artists. The winner will join the Lieutenant Plank Owner Sponsorship Club. 

 

This competition is open to the public and all Oklahomans of high school age and older, regardless of artistic experience. Each submission should be an original design for a coin approximately 1.5 inches minimum and up to 3 inches maximum in diameter which may be round or another shape, The design must be two-sided, with a unique design on each side. The selected design will be produced and distributed to sponsors, Plank Owners, and VIPs as the official submarine challenge coin for the commissioning events of the USS OKLAHOMA SSN 802.
